About

Moe Penders is a Salvadoran artist, whose practice is mainly framed in traditional photography. Their work explores the social construction of home, intersectionality of identity and gender expression. Their artwork is influenced by experiences in their home, their physical house in El Salvador (ES), and the country itself: language specificities, how culture suppresses identity and reinforces binaries, and residual trauma the war exerted on Salvadorans.

They moved to Houston in 2009 and received their BFA from the University of Houston, and are currently working towards their MFA at UCSD.
