About
Moe Penders Ramos (they/them)
Born in San Salvador, El Salvador 1988
Penders is a trans Salvadoran artist and recent MFA graduate from UC San Diego with a BFA from the University of Houston. Their practice is mainly framed in traditional photography. Penders’ work explores the social construction of language, intersectionality of identity and gender expression. Their work alters common practices used within traditional photographic methods, translation, music and notation systems. Their interest in translation lies within people’s perception of gender in different geographic locations, while using their own experience of migration within these spaces to render how they are perceived through language. In their recent work, Etched on a Score & Nelwat they collaborated with musicians, making use of abstracted maps as graphic scores to translate sonorously.
